Elizabeth Hewson's Something to Eat and Something to Read
Recipe writer, author and pasta lover Elizabeth Hewson joins us to share what she has been eating and reading over this summer.
Hello everyone and happy new year! It’s Germaine here with a special guest newsletter for you to read before we bring you our Summer Special podcast episode. We hope you enjoy it and find yet another book (or two) and recipe ideas to introduce into your kitchens.
Elizabeth Hewson spends a lot of time thinking about food. Especially pasta! She is a recipe writer, author and the Head of Creative for one of Australia’s leading restaurant groups, Fink. While her career has been based around food and working closely with celebrated Australian chefs from restaurants including Quay, OTTO and Bennelong, food is much more than a job.
Our podcast episodes always seem to end up with Sophie or me linking the importance of using the senses — whether through reading or cooking — to feel better. Reading a recipe can bring about calm and order for me, while for Sophie it’s kneading dough. For Elizabeth, it’s making pasta and her book Saturday Night Pasta explores the experience of discovering that making pasta had become a self-care ritual. I couldn’t wait to contact Elizabeth after reading about how she found solace in the “humble act” of making pasta during a period of anxiety in her life as hers is another story of how we can look after ourselves better through self-awareness and using our senses. She also has some delicious pasta recipes — I personally love her broccoli and feta ragu — and hopefully after reading you too will be encouraged to take the time to make pasta from scratch!
We will be back in a couple of weeks with our summer episode and newsletter. Until then, we leave you in Elizabeth’s capable hands!
